Knowing the Golden Ages of Summer and Moonlight by Myrtle Thomas

Knowing the Golden Ages of Summer and Moonlight

when the leaves are falling in the moonlight
and the stars search the autumn sky
a time when the shadow of summer still lives
time hovers for a few more hours in my eyes.

life can be golden in the airy footsteps of late summer

autumn whispers such a beautiful song in the air
awe !    the mystery of nature counts its fingers
as it steps sideways in the moonlight and bows to the north
in cool tones of silence nature paints and waits.

life can be golden in the airy footsteps of late summer

while my heart drinks in the last breath  of summer
knowing I may never again feel this grace
but what is more beautiful than the rose of summer
except the paint strokes of autumn's leaves.

life can be golden in the airy footsteps of late summer

when the ashes of summer find the windblown leaf
time is poured out upon the field and tree-line
changing the season in my eyes and the wind I can't clearly see
only the dipping of a golden sun and moon rise and set.
