Like Yours in Mine
After Chen Chen
I long to be held like a parent does their newborn:
tenderly, yes,
but cautiously like one would hold a bomb.
I long to be held like winner does their trophy:
proudly, yes,
but contentedly knowing the fight is now over.
I long to be held like a poet does their pen:
passionately, yes,
but reflexively like a knock to the knee.
I long to be held like my hand does yours:
lovingly, yes,
but exquisitely, reverently, and indelibly attached.
May my hand one day be held in yours
like yours in mine.
