Rain by Pamela A. Mitchell

Vika Glitter

Rain

We live in the land of sorrows

I know this   I come from the land

Of Lake Tear of the Clouds

These clouds inhale tears of the people

Then quietly move here

to weep

What must we do

           with all this sorrow

Leaf trees know the answer

They know we are mourning and

Gift us as they hold tight

         to brilliant autumn colors

We are the grateful Leaf Peepers

Who walk beneath their flaming red,

brilliant yellow, opulent orange

We sense the tension of their grip as they whisper

Hold on…hold on!

If I Can’t Overcome by Nolcha Fox

Art © Mike Armstrong

If I can’t overcome

the storm, let me be the stillness

that seeps into the clouds

before the rain.

Let me be the pressure drop,

a warning to take shelter.

Let me be the silence

that soothes the branches

just before the wind

announces snow.

Let me breathe in quiet

before the ocean surges.

Let me welcome calmly

whatever comes my way.

This poem appears in “End of Earth: A Collaboration of Poetry and Painting” by Nolcha Fox and        Mike Armstrong
