The Y of Man by Tony Ashenden

The Y of Man

Unmarked, should you seek to follow

- a narrow path can still be found

by acolyte’s intent to pass

beyond reflection of the Sun.

These onward upping jagged stones

will slope and crumble underfoot

obscure your vision cause you doubt

- each step from where you first begun.

You will have read the holy books

excised the mystery of their words

know the pittance gained by study

teaches you - it’s man not angel speak.

The discoveries Archimedes made

when dying with these telling words

- do not disturb my circles - meant

he had insight which was unique.

Not written down - because no words

express the genetic codicil

that angelic forces supplement

- to show the narrow path we seek.

A power born that cannot die

- yet will cause the flesh much pain

- too much and more than some can bear

and these by name you will applaud

writing their wrongs in history books

extolling their purposing lives.

Of them whose names we do not know

who achieved the narrow path reward

their ordeals were never public

- did not grace the stone-built churches

or kneel to kiss gold temple mats.

Unaware you’d pass them in the street

- or knowingly offend their looks.

The causal powers inner force

is alien to the Self we know

could even cause you to retreat.

The Y of man is only known

by unrepentant savage souls

scurvy scarred child-like spirits

Eureka saints who never own.

Their common faces changing shape

loved and unremembered, pass by

- unknown by those who would aspire

to be lauded at heaven’s gate.
