We paint by Melissa Lemay

We paint
our stories,
begging of the trees
to listen
for an ache
that lives in our skin.
I turn
myself sideways
to get different
perspective
in homage to the trees
rooted to the earth.
She sings to me,
telling sacred truths
through her
rocks and boulders
reverberating through pink
paint;
and
the house finch
sings.
