Unaware by Kirsty Mac Dougall

Jacob Gomez

Unaware

Every breath is a mountain

and every heartbeat is the ocean at its feet

with eyes closed

we hurtle across the earth

irreverent and unaware

of the sheer magnitude of the rock

our lives are built on

with a foundation that’s

unshakeable

though we fear the breeze as it skims the seas

never hearing the ocean as it beats

at the feet of the greatest mountain

that ever was or will be

your being and mine

made perfect

yet unaware.
