Make Much of Something Small

The crunch of leaves that fall,

once green, then yellow,

quickly dry and crumple,

love notes lost to coming winter.

How quickly gusts denude the trees,

to leave them shivering in the wind.

Leaves don’t complain.

They turn to mulch

to keep the garden warm.

They know new leaves

will show again when winter

melts to sparkling spring.

  1. My favorite season -- a beauty to hold in our thoughts while we wait for the return of beauty.
